On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m answering the question of: “how much water should I drink to lose weight fast?“.
The answer can be found using a simple calculation that I reveal below, along with some easy tips on how to drink more water.
This Freestyle Friday episode was inspired by an insight I read from Craig Ballantyne’s email newsletter this morning.
If you’re not familiar with Craig, I quote him all the time.
Since there is so much information available on the internet, people often get overwhelmed.
The internet is a great thing, but it can cause information overload.
Also, when it comes to weight loss, you’ll rarely find a group of experts that agree on the same techniques.
Unfortunately, the overabundance of conflicting information, often causes people to quit, before they even start.
I know, because I went through the same thing when I first started my Live Lean journey.
Craig’s advice on this topic was the following:
…focus on sticking to a couple of BIG habits at first. Get those ‘cemented’ over the next 21 days. Then start to implement a couple of other big habits. Focus on progressively implementing more good habits and maintaining the ones you have. – Craig Ballantyne
In the beginning, or if you’re looking to take your health to the next level, it is important to focus on the key habits that are going to get you the most results, the fastest.
The first thing that came to my mind when I related this advice to fitness, nutrition, and overall health, is drinking water.
Fortunately, drinking more water is one topic that pretty much all fitness experts agree on.
Too many people overlook the importance of drinking water, or as I like to call it, liquid energy.
Even though our body is made up of approximately 70% water, most of us still do not drink enough water.
Drinking more water will give you more energy, as it is very hydrating, and will help you feel great, and perform better with your workouts.
Many people struggle with low energy levels because they are depleted of water.
Also, when you feel hungry, a lot of the times, you may just be dehydrated, without even knowing it.
Drink a big glass of water to help fill you up before raiding the kitchen.
This will help reduce hunger cravings and stop you from consuming those unnecessary calories, that you
really don’t need.
So this all leads to the big question that I get all the time.
The simple formula to calculate how much water you should drink per day to lose weight fast is:
Let’s say you’re 200 pounds:
Based on this calculation, at the minimum, you would need to drink 100 ounces of water per day to lose weight fast.
If you’re 150 pounds:
A 150 pound person should drink 75 ounces of water per day to lose weight fast.
For faster weight loss, aim to hit or come close to drinking this amount of water every day.
Now that you know how much water you should drink per day to lose weight fast, the next question is, what are some easy ways to drink more water.
One thing I always do is keep a stainless steel or BPA free water bottle close by.
A BPA free water bottle simply means there are no BPA chemicals in the plastic water bottle.
This is important, as regular plastic water bottles can leek unhealthy xenoestrogen BPA chemicals into the water.
I typically drink out of a stainless steel water bottle, but if I need to buy water from a plastic bottle, I always feel more comfortable drinking out of BPA free plastic water bottle.
Buy a stainless steel water bottle and carry it around with you.
Keep it filled with water at your office desk and have it close by with you at home.
When it’s close by, you’ll always remember to keep drinking from it.
Then when it’s empty, immediately fill it back up.
And yes, you’re going to go to the bathroom a lot more, but you’ll feel great as you’ll be getting rid of junk out of your body.
Also, if you still forget to drink water, one tip I gave in my book, Awaken The Abs Within, is to set a reminder in your smartphone.
So set an alarm every hour, to remind you to go refill your water bottle, or to take a big drink of water.
If you’re drinking green tea, you’re also increasing your water consumption.
You can also increase your water consumption by eating water rich foods, like fruits and vegetables.
Lets get back to the fundamentals by incorporating one of the biggest, and easiest, steps to lose weight faster, and live the lean lifestyle 365 days per year.
Drink more water.
For most people water is very accessible.
It’s essentially free, and will help clean out your system, and give you more energy.

It’s a practical weight loss tip, that you can start implementing right now.
