Almond Milk Or Soy Milk

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, it’s time to compare and analyze which milk is healthier, almond milk vs soy milk.

That’s right, it’s back.

It’s Food Wars time baby.

Food Wars is a segment that puts two foods head-to-head, to see which one should be in your kitchen, and which one should be in the garbage.

So in today’s battle, it is almond milk vs soy milk.

Which type of milk do you think is healthier?

Before you read any further, scroll down and tell me your guess in the comment section below.

Alright, it’s time to ring the bell and find out.

Let’s do this.

Is Soy Milk Healthy?

First up, is soy milk.

Where should I start with this one?

In a 2011 study from the journal of Nutrition And Cancer, soy milk was shown to stimulate the growth of breast cancer.

Most soy grown in the United States is GMO soy, making it a highly genetically modified food.

Soy is also one of the highest pesticide sprayed foods.

If that’s not bad enough, check this out.

The overconsumption of soy may also affect the hormonal balance of both men and women.

This means women may be at risk for:

When it comes to men, we may be at risk for:

Hello man boobs.

This is because soy contains phytoestrogens which can mimic estrogen in the body, the same way as BPAs do.

With all this said, it’s not looking good for you soy milk.

Is Almond Milk Healthy?

Next up, welcome almond milk.

Almond milk is derived from the nut, Mr. Almond.

By now, most of us know the health benefits associated with almonds.

But did you know in that same 2011 study in the journal of Nutrition and Cancer, they found that almond milk suppressed and decreased the growth of prostate cancer by more than 30%.

Almond milk is also high in vitamins and minerals, including:

  • vitamin E
  • the antioxidant selenium
  • calcium
  • iron
  • and many other healthy vitamins and minerals

Nice.

But, if you’re buying almond milk from the grocery store, make sure you buy the unsweetened version.

Sweetened versions can be filled with all kinds of fattening sugars.

Even better, if you have a high quality blender, like a Vitamix, Blendtec, or Breville, you can make your own homemade almond milk.

This a better option than store bought almond milk.

But for the occasional smoothie, unsweetened store bought brands of almond milk are fine.

And The Almond Milk vs Soy Milk Winner Is…

With all this said, the clear winner of this Food Wars battle is almond milk.

It’s time to throw that soy milk into the garbage.

  1. You said nothing good about soy milk and nothing bad about almond milk you
should state both pros and cons because if you did a little more research
you would find out the soy milk has many more pros

  2. Yeah soymilk taste good but fuck that estrogen shit imma go back to regular
milk. Im lactose intolerant a bit, i will just have to train the body to
    get used to it again.

  3. I bought silk soy milk and it says non GMO. I bought it because I’ve become
vegan and I thought it was healthy

  4. u didn’t mentioned that almond milk has a terrible imbalance of omega6 /
omega3. This should be around 4/1 but almond milk has 2000/1 balance….so
is VERY inflamatory anywhere in the body. If u make soy milk from organic
soy at home and u drink a glass a day, there are no dangers…. for me soy
milk wins easily (sorry for my English, i’m italian 🙂 )

  5. so the moron below me doesnt seem to understand that a gallon of water
means nothing to the drought in california, and we are fine when it comes
to almods, shut the hell up do, im glad i made the choice i made because
regardless of research done on soy milk, i was tired of it. so there ya go,
im now into almond milk, and i just need to get used to that.

  6. Both Soy milk & Almond milk are bad choices. Why? 1) the negative health
findings he mentioned about Soy milk in this video, and 2) There is a water
crisis in California now, where almost all U.S. almonds are grown; one
gallon of water is needed to grow only ONE almond! Therefore, almost no
water = good bye almonds. I switched from cow milk to soy milk during
college, and then switched from soy milk to almond milk after reading the
health research on soy milk. Now I’m looking for a new alternative. At a
biological level, for almost every species of mammals, adults of the
species do NOT drink milk—so why should adult humans (also mammals) drink
    milk?

  7. The effects of plant estrogen on human being has not been yet fully
determined. In extremely high doses created some side effects in the sexual
organ functionality, but we are talking of daily assumption of 10 times the
suggested serving size. Soy has been used for centuries in Asia where they
have always had a better health than the western countries. Of course we
are all entitled to our opinions, but fact is that there are no scientific
facts enough to support the side effects. On the contrary a moderate
assumption of soy has been proven to be very healthy.

  8. what about organic, non GMO soy milk? Why are the Japanese, who consume
large quantities of not only soy milk but many soy products – have studies
of longer life and healthier than the American counterparts?

  9. I heard from another clip about the worry about female flavone something
thingumajig is an imitation very similar but has differ
absorption therefore doesn’t create that imbalance hormone fe/male effect
-sorry4my lack of educated wording > but my context counts, I personally
drink cow milk/soy milk/almond milk mix with ground almonds / Yoplait
yogurts/ cheese OR anything milky & a lot of times mix all the milks
together into 1 & I’m a little heavy on vanilla sustagen power & (malted
milk power mix in water I’ve cooked vegetables in) so I guess whatever
lacking in 1 I’ll be making up with another – reason I do this is because
the more I mix together, the more I get a bit of flavor in everything.

  10. Now lets talk about how a majority of all our so called organic almonds are
processed and that important ingredient known as Carrageenan thats in your
almond milk and how dangerous it really is!

    BAM! Both in the garbage!

  11. not all soy is equal and not almond milks/soy milks are equal. organic gmo
free fermented soy like tempeh means the fermentation process kills the
anti-nutrients. and homemade soy milk with just filtered water+organic soy
beans isn’t going to hurt you either. of course processed soys like tofu,
mock meats and store bought soy milks are shit. vegetables have
phytoestrogens.. most store bought almond milks have carageenan, sweeteners
and stuff too so that’s not exactly great either

  12. I want to try Almond milke it sounds more attractive than Soy milk and it
looks really affordable. I will have to see.

  13. I have replaced dairy milk with store bought unsweetened almond milk for
the past year. But part of me is always wondering if the thickener
chemicals all brands have is a problem in the long run. It’s either
carrageenan or locust bean gum; they ALL have one of those two.
Carrageenan I have heard more bad things about, so I avoid brands that use
that (such as Almond Breeze). Locust bean gum there is less info on (which
is in Silk products), but it is still a processed chemical. And making
homemade almond milk does not seem very practical if you plan on drinking
it daily on a regular basis.

  14. i knew almond milk was going to be the winner here… but i have one
    question…
i love my starbucks frappuccinos ,… who doesn’t?
unfortunately, i’m lactose intolerant, and the only choice i have at
starbucks is regular milk, or soy milk…
question: should i stop drinking the soy frappuccinos altogether, or will
it not matter much cause i only drink prob once a week?

  15. Brad, what is your advice on raw oven toasted peanuts,I like to add them to
my salad or veggies, about a handful a day. They are so much cheaper then
any nuts, but not sure if they are supportive to my trainings and clean
    eating . Thank u.

  16. Pretty sure we have been through this brad (Food Wars – Coconut Milk vs
Dairy Milk vs Soy Milk vs Almond Milk – Live Lean TV) xD oh well i guess
more details were needed. Nice to see food wars back =]

  17. Ano I’m going off topic but could u possibly do a video on low sugar
marinades for my chicken! Getting bored and the bottled marinades r high in
    sugars! HELP!!!

  18. I love almond milk but I ve noticed it was bloating me and give me
abdominal pains so I had to quit… I use coconut milk but sometimes even
    soy milk :/

  19. Is all soy the same+ What about unprocessed soy. Like fermented soy I.e.
Miso isn’t it a good source of pro-biotics?
