On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, we have some great questions to answer, including what are my favorite healthy on the go snack ideas.

This is the second episode of our #LLTV Q&A series, where I answer your questions on camera.

So lets jump into today’s questions:

Question #1:

How do you fight your cravings for more food?

The simple answer is, I eat more food.

But when I say food, I’m talking about real whole food.

Food that is full of fiber and the key nutrients that keep you feeling full, for longer periods of time.

When you eat food that is void of all nutrition, like the white flour and sugar, it throws your blood sugar levels all over the place.

These foods also do not fill you up.

We call these empty calories

Empty calories come from foods and liquids that do not fill you up, and do not provide your body with healthy nutrients.

These empty calorie foods do not provide you with anything, except for throwing your hormone levels all over the place and putting your body at risk for storing fat.

Therefore it’s important to stay away from empty calories foods and replace them with whole foods.

People often ask me if I count calories

When I first got started my Live Lean journey, I did count calories.

I believe it’s very important for people to understand the value of a calorie, as well as where your calories are coming from.

For example, if I look at a chicken breast, a tablespoon of almond butter, or a piece of fruit, I can roughly tell you how many calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates is in it.

Since I spent time counting calories, I now have that education.

However, now I don’t need to count calories anymore, because I know what my body needs, I know the energy that I require, and I know how to burn it off.

So here are my tips.

By the way, if you’re not following me on Instagram, you’re missing a lot of valuable tips that I share.

I will go to the fridge and eat a tablespoon of almond butter and a hot green tea.

This may not sound very soothing, but the almond butter is very satiating and delicious.

I absolutely love almond butter, which means it doesn’t stay in my kitchen very long, because I attack it.

I don’t know why, but I also love to drink green tea.

Maybe it’s just the soothing effect of having something hot going into your body.

It just makes me feel calm and satiated.

Lastly, lets be real.

Most times at night, you’re really not that hungry, you’re probably just a little bit bored.

Question #2:

I was just wondering if you knew much about this intermittent fasting thing, and what your opinion was on it?

I get this question on intermittent fasting a lot.

So first of all, intermittent fasting is just a tool.

What you need to do is find something that works for you and your lifestyle.

Whether it’s eating 6 small meals a day, or fasting, at the end of the day it’s about calories in and then burning those calories off.

  • If you’re in a calorie deficit, you’re going to lose weight.
  • If you’re in a calorie surplus, you’re going to add more mass.

What is intermittent fasting?

So if you don’t know what intermittent is, there are many different forms of it.

There’s the 16:8 intermittent fasting approach, which essentially means that you’re fasting for 16 hours of the day, and then you have a feed period of 8 hours.

During this 8 hour feeding when, you’re refueling your body.

For example:

  • you fast by not eating from 8pm to 12pm the next day.
  • you feed yourself food from 12pm-8pm.

This is just one approach to intermittent fasting.

INtermittent Fasting my 14 day experiment

One time I actually fasted for a full 24 hours.

I absolutely found it torturous since I love food.

One of the big ideas behind intermittent fasting is that it can bring your glucose levels back in line.

I always say, if you can control your blood sugar levels and hormones, you will be on your way to Living Lean.

But you have to find what works for you and your lifestyle.

If you have a lifestyle, where you’re always on the go, intermittent fasting may work for you, especially since eating 6 meals a day probably doesn’t work for your busy lifestyle.

Just make sure, if your goal is weight loss, that you’re not going over your calorie maintenance level, since at the end of the day, it’s all about calories in and calories out.

Question #3:

I’d love to hear your thoughts on tofu, good or bad, and why?

Here’s what I’m going to tell you about tofu.

Tofu is a highly refined food, meaning you don’t see it growing out of the ground.

This is because tofu is processed in a manufacturing facility.

In other words, tofu is not your best source of protein.

There are many arguments against consuming tofu, especially regarding its estrogenic properties.

This means tofu may throw off your hormonal balance of estrogen to testosterone.

Bottom line, I don’t like the taste of tofu.

I also prefer to stick to whole foods, and tofu is not a whole food.

So I would say that if you like eating tofu, just try to eat in moderation.

But if you don’t like it or if you haven’t tried it, don’t bother with it.

Stick with real whole foods.

Question #4:

Have you heard anything on the resveratrol supplement?

I know quite a bit about supplements, but there are so many supplements available, that it’s impossible to stay on top of everything.

I’m sure this person probably heard Dr. Oz, or somebody on TV, hyping up the supplement as being the be all end all to health.

So if you don’t know what resveratrol is, it’s actually an antioxidant that can help fight the oxidative stress that occurs in your body.

If you add more antioxidants into your diet via food, you can get resveratrol naturally from grapes, as it’s in the grape skin.

Here’s what I’ve read.

Studies have been done on mice and studies were done on humans.

Like a lot of research, what they found in mice was not the same as what they found in humans.

So there’s still a lot more research to go.

Personally, I would say don’t waste your money on resveratrol yet.

Spend your money on nature’s medicine, real food.

Question #5:

Can you make a video on a quick and easy, healthy high protein snack for people on the go?

Brad, we see on TV that Subway has good subs, but like all foods, it’s what we add to them that makes them less healthy, i.e. ranch dressing. Can you answer if you have a favorite sub and what add ons would you recommend you stay away from?
