On today’s #TBT episode of Live Lean TV, I’m answering a viewer question on what is intermittent fasting and is it right for you?

Before I share my thoughts on if intermittent fasting is right for you, this is a post from our #TBT Q&A series.

Here is today’s viewer question on what is intermittent fasting and is it right for you?

I was just wondering if you knew much about this intermittent fasting thing, and what your opinion was on it?

I get this question on intermittent fasting a lot.

So first of all, intermittent fasting, also known as IF, is just a tool.

What you need to do, is find something that works for you and your lifestyle.

Whether it’s eating 6 small meals a day, or fasting, at the end of the day it’s about calories in and then burning those calories off.

  • If you’re in a calorie deficit, you’re going to lose weight.
  • If you’re in a calorie surplus, you’re going to add more mass.

What is intermittent fasting?

So if you don’t know what intermittent is, there are many different forms of it.

There’s the 16:8 intermittent fasting approach, which essentially means that you’re fasting for 16 hours of the day, and then you have a feed period of 8 hours.

During this 8 hour feeding when, you’re refueling your body.

For example:

  • you fast by not eating from 8pm to 12pm the next day.
  • you feed yourself food from 12pm-8pm.

This is just one approach to intermittent fasting.

One time I actually fasted for a full 24 hours.

I absolutely found it torturous, since I love food.

Why is intermittent fasting good for you?

One of the big ideas behind intermittent fasting is that it can bring your insulin and glucose levels back in line.

I always say, if you can control your blood sugar and insulin hormone levels, you will be on your way to Living Lean.

But you have to find what works for you and your lifestyle.

If you have a lifestyle, where you’re always on the go, intermittent fasting may work for you, especially since eating 6 meals a day probably doesn’t work for your busy lifestyle.

Just make sure, if your goal is weight loss, that you’re not going over your calorie maintenance level, since at the end of the day, it’s all about calories in and calories out.
