On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, Jessica and I talk about the 3 best supplements to take daily all year round.
Should you also take these supplements?
This question is from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 002.
@Milanisakilla on Snapchat asks: do you take supplements, if you do, which ones? For example, what are the 3 best supplements to take daily all year round?
Yes, I take supplements.
But before I share which supplements I take daily, I have to put a little bit of context around my answer.
The reason for this is simple.
Here’s what I mean by this.
If you are not following a good workout program, and you really don’t have any idea what you’re eating, or how to properly cook your food, don’t worry about supplements yet.
Investing in supplements becomes more beneficial when you already have:
Once you have these major factors in place, then supplements can come in to play.
Think of supplements as that small piece of the puzzle, that gives you that last 5% kick in the butt, so you can take your results to the next level.
It’s so true.
Here’s another way to look at it.
The first 4 steps are not ranked in any particular order of importance:
Supplements should be the last thing you worry about before dialing in all 4 of those staples.
Now that the PSA is over, let me just answer the damn question, and share the 3 best supplements to take daily all year round.
So, yes to answer your question directly, I do take supplements, because I have a good grasp on all 4 of the other steps to Live Lean.
Here are the 3 foundational supplements that I take, in no particular order.
These are the same 3 supplements that I also suggest most people should be investing in.
There are many different types of protein powder, which I covered here.
In most cases, the highest quality protein powder comes from whey protein isolate.
If your can body properly absorb whey protein isolate, go with this whey protein (use discount code: LiveLeanTV25).
Since I don’t digest dairy very well, and whey is derived from dairy, I prefer to take this egg white protein (use discount code: LiveLeanTV25).
Lastly, if you’re looking for a plant based protein protein, go with this plant protein(use discount code: LiveLeanTV25).
The next important foundational supplement is fish oil.
Due to the foods in the standard american diet, the majority of our bodies are so out of whack when it comes to the omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acid ratio.
The excessive consumption of processed grains and refined vegetables oils, combined with not eating enough foods high in omega 3 fatty acids in our diet, creates this imbalance.
This ratio imbalance of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids can create a lot of inflammation in our body.
Since the majority of people do not consume enough omega 3 fatty acids in their diet, this is where supplementing with fish oil is beneficial.
This is a classic example of how supplements should work, and why I highly recommend most people take fish oil.
Plus, if you’re still living in the 1980s, and are fat phobic, news flash, the right type of fats are actually good for you now, and they’re delicious.
A diet high in healthy dietary fats can also help burn body fat more effectively.
The next foundational supplement is a high quality greens powder.
I’ve talked a lot about greens powders in previous posts.
High quality greens powders are great to supplement with as they can act as a vegetable nutritional supplement.
I often refer to greens powders as my vegetable insurance.
In other words, if you’re not hitting your daily vegetable quota, supplementing with greens powder can help fill that gap.
I also find when I travel a lot, I don’t consume as much vegetables, which often leads me to get sick quickly.
However, if I take this green supplement with me during travel, I rarely get sick.
A multivitamin may provide similar benefits to a greens powder, however I prefer to take a greens powder, because in my opinion, it’s a higher quality source.
Even when you are eating well, you can still add a greens powder to your daily diet, as you are not going to overdose on vegetables.
I know it can be confusing when it comes to which brands of supplements to take.
The supplement industry can be a very shady industry.
Trust me, all supplements are not created equal, since there are some low quality brands out there that are deceiving people.
So again, here are links to the brands of the 3 best supplements to take daily all year round.
Of course, there are some other high quality supplements as well, but it really all depends on what nutrients your body is depleted in.
Some people may be high in certain nutrients, while others may be low.
Therefore, if you really want to be certain about which supplements to take, I recommend you get a blood test done.
It also depends on what phase of your life you are currently going through.
For example, Jessica would take different supplements when she was pregnant versus when she was competing in fitness and bodybuilding shows.
Ultimately you have to ask more questions before deciding what supplements are right for you.
For example, what you are currently doing with your training, and why do you think you need a certain supplement during this phase of your life?
Regardless, the 3 supplements that we talked about are foundation supplements.
In other words, these are the basics which most people can benefit from them.
