And if the energy bars don’t stick together for you, make energy bar cereal like this…

CAN YOU FIX THIS RECIPE? This morning I tried to create a homemade “granola” bar made with whole food ingredients, unlike the store bought bars that are filled with sugar and processed fat. • But, as you can see, the texture 💯 FAILED ❌. • Question to you: which ingredient is missing to make these babies stick together? • Ingredients (15 servings): – 2 cups rolled oats – 1/2 cup quinoa – 1/4 cup ground flax seed – 1 tsp baking soda – 1/2 tsp sea salt – 1/2 cup slivered almonds – 1/2 cup sunflower seeds – 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots – 1/2 cup shredded coconut (unsweetened) – 1/2 cup honey – 1/2 cup almond flour/meal – 1/4 cup of apple sauce (unsweetened) – 2 tsp vanilla – 1 cup of water • Instructions: 1. Pre-heat oven to 350F. 2. Rinse pre-cooked quinoa and then cook according to package directions. 3. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, flax, baking soda, honey, sea salt, almond flour/meal, almonds, sunflower seeds, apricots, coconut. 4. Once quinoa is cooked, add apple sauce, vanilla, and water to quinoa. 5. Mix wet ingredients with dry ingredients. 6. Grease a 9 x 13 pyrex dish with non-sticking cooking spray. 7. Spread mixture in the pan and flatten. 8. Bake for 20 mins at 350F. 9. Once finished, allow for it to cool for 5 mins, then cut into bars. 10. Enjoy!

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup ground flax seed You can buy whole flax seeds (which can be healthier as they're less processed with heat), then ground them in a blender.

  • 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1/2 cup agave nectar I usually cook with raw honey which is a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup buckwheat flour stoneground
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup chopped organic dried apricots Organic dried apricots should be brown, not flourescant orange. The orange color is from added preservatives and food coloring.

  3. In a big mixing bowl add all the following dry ingredients: rolled oats, ground flax seed, baking soda, sea salt, agave nectar, buckwheat flour, slivered almonds, sunflower seeds, chopped apricots, unsweetened shredded coconut (love coconut).
  4. Mix all the ingredients together, making sure to the agave nectar is spread throughout the mixture.
  5. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray, then add the cooked quinoa to the pan.
  6. Add the following wet ingredients to the same 9 x 13 pan: unsweetened apple sauce and vanilla extract (for flavor).
  7. Add the dry ingredient mixture to the 9 x 13 pan and mix all the ingredients together, flattening it out to fill the entire pan. At this point it should look good, it should smell good, and the consistency should be compacted together.
  8. Add the pan to the over for approximately 20 minutes, and wait!
  9. Then remove the quinoa energy bars from the oven and allow it to cool down for 5 minutes before cutting (and tasting).
  10. Now you can give it a taste!

  1. Hi Brad! In your food wars video you recommended to NOT buy agave syrup. So why use it for the energy bars? I personally love the agave syrup but after watching your other video I might exchange it for maple syrup or raw honey.
I usually put it into my breakfast fruit salad … should I switch to stevia/sukrin alltogether?

    thx for your videos! 🙂
