A Man’s Work Is Never Done | Live Lean Life Ep. 037

On today’s vlog episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing a leg workout from Live Lean MASS 2.0, some morning wisdom, and a delicious turkey meatballs recipe.

In Live Lean Life Vlog Ep. 037 I share:

Morning Wisdom

Good morning everybody, what’s up?

Kyla and I are in a great mood because she slept good last night.

Before I go to the gym, I first want to share a funny story.

Since I was in a rush this morning, I decided to mix together my greens powder with my pre-workout powder (use coupon code: LiveLeanTV).

This created a weird mixture of flavors, which made me think back to when I first started my health journey.

Back in 2007, I was taking this unsweetened greens powder supplement, that had a green grassy flavor.

However, I wouldn’t mix it with juice because I had a mindset shift where I wanted to challenge myself to do something hard in the morning.

I thought if I can get up in the morning and drink this unsweetened greens powder drink, I can accomplish anything in my day.

Yes, it tasted that bad.

Drinking that greens powder and pre-workout powder mixture this morning reminded me of that that story.

Eat That Frog First Thing In The Morning

This is a good story for you to think about.

I believe you should crush the most important thing in your day, first thing in the morning.

I first learned about this concept after reading a book from Brian Tracy called, Eat That Frog.

If there is something you need to get done, but you keep putting it off, crush that thing first in the morning.

Then everything else in your day just becomes easier.

There is a little morning wisdom for you before I hit the gym.

It’s Leg Day

I’m currently working on day 3 from my 42 day Live Lean MASS 2.0 muscle building workout program.

Since it’s leg day, it’s time to put this leg workout to the test.

Before I get started, I want to show you a few simple tools that I bring to the gym:

On cold days I like wearing compression tights to keep my muscles and joints warm for optimal performance.

Today’s workout was just a screenshot on my phone of the workout on a spreadsheet, rather than inside our workout app.

When I filmed this, I was still designing and testing the workouts.

You can now get the full Live Lean MASS 2.0 program inside our workout app.

That way you can always have your workout plan with you.

What Are Activation Sets?

Before we get to the squatting portion of the workout, the Live Lean MASS 2.0 program first has you completing activation sets.

These activation sets are designed to warm up and get the blood flowing to the targeted muscles.

That way the muscles can contract properly under heavier loads.

Post Workout Nutrition: Protein Shake And Whole Food Meal

Now it’s time to go back home to put together my post workout protein shake.

Since it was a leg workout, and I’m feeling really tired right now, sometimes I will use orange juice in my post workout shake.

However, I don’t go too crazy with the amount.

I’ll usually put a cup of orange juice in the blender, then fill the rest with water.

This orange juice provides my body with a quick source of sugar to really help replenish the lost glycogen from that tough leg workout.

In addition to the orange juice, I’m also going to do add some protein powder to it (use 25% off coupon code: LiveLeanTV25).

Post Workout Meal: Whole Foods

After I drink my protein shake, it’s time to get in the shower, clean up, then eat some whole foods, for example turkey, to refuel my hungry body.

It’s time to grub up.

This is the meal that’s on deck for today.

ground turkey salad

It’s similar variation of the big ass salad:

  • Ground organic turkey
  • Sliced hard boiled eggs
  • Paprika on top
  • Salad underneath

Let’s eat.

Filming An Episode Of #AskLiveLeanTV

After eating, it’s time to set up the set to film another episode of #AskLiveLeanTV.

The work hustle just doesn’t stop.

We’re cranking out a lot of content to help you with your journey, so hopefully you are enjoying it.

I also keep my TRX straps up in the living room so I can continue to work on my goal of strengthening and improving my shoulder mobility.

After that, I’m going to go out for a walk with Kyla and Bruno, while Jessica puts together another meal from Sunbasket.

That’s right, Jessica is the chef tonight, while I take care of the kids.

This Sunbasket recipe is called Gingered Turkey Meatballs In Lemongrass Broth With Cauliflower Rice.

Instructions
  1. Pat dry the 10 oz ground turkey with a paper towel.
  2. Zest 1 lime into a medium bowl, cut the lime into wedges, then set aside the lime wedges for garnish.
  3. Coarsely chop the fresh cilantro and divide into halves.
  4. In the medium bowl with the lime zest, add the egg, half the fresh cilantro, approximately 2 tbsp of meatball seasoning containing: ground ginger, granulated garlic, coriander, almond meal, then whisk until blended.
  5. Add the 10 oz of ground turkey to the medium bowl, season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then gently mix until it's combined with the other ingredients.
  6. If desired, set the bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up the turkey mixture.
  7. Using your wet hands, shape the turkey mixture into 1 1/2 inch turkey meatballs.
  8. In a large frying pan over medium high heat, warm 1 tablespoon of avocado oil until hot, but not smoking.
  9. Add the turkey meatballs and cook for approximately 3-4 minutes per side, turning once, until well browned and cooked through.
  10. Once cooked, transfer the turkey meatballs to a plate and pour off all but 1 tbsp of the oil from the pan.
  11. In the same pan used for the meatballs, add the cauliflower rice, and cook over medium heat for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, until the cauliflower is lightly browned and softened.
  12. Trim off the top of the serrano chile and thinly slice.
  13. Coarsely chop 1/3 of a cup of roasted cashews.
  14. Strip the mint leave from the stems, then coarsely chop the leaves. This will be the freshest smell ever.
  15. In a small sauce pot over medium heat, warm 1 tbsp of avocado oil until hot, but not smoking.
  16. Stir in the lemongrass paste containing: lemongrass, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, ground turmeric, olive oil, salt.
  17. Add as much serrano chile to the same sauce pot as you like, stir, then cook for approximately 1 minute.
  18. Add 1 cup of water to the sauce pot, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  19. Add 1/2 cup of coconut milk and kale to the sauce pot, then cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until just heated through.
  20. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
  21. Transfer the cauliflower rice to individual bowls, top with the meatballs, garnish the bowls with the cashews, mint, and cilantro, then pour in the lemongrass broth.
  22. Top with the lime wedges.
  23. Stick a fork in it and you are done.

Kyla said the food looked so good, she was going to eat with us, and pass on her booby milk diet.

Even though I usually cook the Sunbasket meals, Jess did such a good job making this Gingered Turkey Meatballs In Lemongrass Broth dinner.

It looks delicious.

While Jess was posting a video of the Sunbasket meal to our @LiveLeanTV Instagram stories, I was ready to dig in and eat.

Since Kyla was busy staring at herself in the mirror, I think she is going to let us eat in peace tonight.

Kyla

As you can see, her cute hair is starting to grow out.

I’m sure she was thinking, “damn, I’m good looking”.

It’s a little too early for narcissism 😂.

She just loves looking at herself in the mirror.

All right, it’s time to take a bite.

Oh my god, this is so ridiculously good.

You know when you just want to like make love to your dinner, that’s what we’re feeling right now!
