4 Healthy Food Swaps That Will Save Your Diet

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing how to slowly start eating healthy for beginners, including 4 healthy food swaps that will save your diet.

Since you liked my recent video post on the lean 14 healthy food swaps so much, we’re back again talking about 4 simple and progressive healthy food swaps that will save your diet.

The purpose of this video post is to highlight the following point, which you’ve probably already heard me say a million times.

Living Lean is about progress, not perfection.

For example, I get asked this question numerous times a day.

Can I Still Lose Weight If I Snack On Popcorn And Granola Bars?

My answer is always, it depends.

Here’s why.

Think about it.

Let’s say you’re currently snacking on a full bag of cheesy garlic bread flavored potato chips every day.

If you swap out that higher calorie bag of potato chips, for a lower calorie store bought popcorn option, then yes, you may still lose weight.

This is because you are going to be consuming less calories, which is one of the main mechanisms required to lose weight.

How Many Calories Should I Eat A Day?

The point is this.

It’s All Relative To Where You Currently Are With Your Diet

Making successful food swaps is all relative to where you currently are with your diet.

Is eating popcorn instead of potato chips the best food swap for weight loss?

No.

But it is a step in the right direction, and does get the ball rolling?

I would say yes.

Start Eating Healthy Slowly Vs. The Cold Turkey Approach

Let’s contrast this progressive, yet slower, approach towards healthy eating with the cold turkey approach.

How do you think a 500 pound dude, who ate nothing but fast food for the past 10 years, would last if he switched cold turkey to a 100% diet of strictly organic vegetables, meat, nuts, and seeds.

Based on this cold turkey approach, he probably would not last a day.

Regardless of where you currently are, the important thing to focus on is where you are going.

Remember, you do not need to follow a drastic, all or nothing, approach to healthy eating in the beginning, to make a difference.

WHY YOU'RE NOT LOSING FAT AS A BEGINNER [MAKE FAT LOSS SUSTAINABLE]

For sustainable weight loss, it’s more important to focus on simple and consistent progress everyday.

With that said, here are 4 simple and progressive healthy food swaps that will save your diet.

#1. Swap Out Potato Chips For Apple Slices With Cinnamon And Nut Butter

Swap that super unhealthy night time snack with apple slices, cinnamon, and nut butter.

Almond Butter & Apple Cinnamon

Depending on how many nights a week you’re eating potato chips, start by making this healthy food swap at least one night a week.

Then the following week, swap out the potato chips for the apple slices for 2 nights of the week, and so on.

This is an example of how your diet may not perfect in the beginning, but it’ll get the ball rolling, so you can eventually swap out the junk food for healthier snacks every night.

#2. Swap Out Breakfast Cereal For An Egg Omelet

Swap your high carbohydrate breakfast cereal or toast, for an egg omelet just 2 days a week.

Start this on the weekend when you have more time in the morning to prepare the food.

Then slowly add eggs for breakfast 3 times a week, then 4 times a week, and so on, until you’ve completely phased out cereal for breakfast.

You’ll never get bored of eggs when you alternate between:

I could go on, since eggs are so versatile.

#3. Swap Out Fast Food For Big Ass Salad

Swap out a fast food meal with a homemade big ass salad at least once a week.

How To Make A Salad That Tastes Good

I pretty much show you how I eat a big ass salad every day on my YouTube vlog channel, Brad Gouthro TV.

As you see on my vlog, these salads are not your “I’m on a diet” type salad.

All my salads are filled with delicious and satiating healthy and delicious ingredients:

It’s man food.

This means there is no need for the fattening store bought salad dressings.

#4. Swap Out Soda For Flavored Carbonated Water

Swap out soda with flavored carbonated water 2 days a week.

Do this food swap on the opposite days of when you’re cutting out that unhealthy night time snack.

If you’re still indulging on soda, have it on a day when you’ve swapped out potato chips for apples, and vice versa.

Eventually once you kick the soda habit, we’ll have you working on kicking the carbonated flavored water, for delicious flavor infused water with fruit slices.

  1. Any suggestions for better breakfasts that don’t include eggs? Open to
cutting down on carbs, but eggs make me sick :/

  2. Hey Brad, I have a concern. For the past two days my abs looked a lot less
shredded than they used to. I calculated my bodyfat and I am currently 9%
and eating clean and drinking lots of water. I usually have cheat meals on
weekends and they have little to no effect to how my abdominals look, but
after my cheat meal on friday, my abdominals disappeared and it has been
like this till today. What is the reasoning to this and what have I done
wrong? Thank you for your time

  3. Great video !! It really is such easier swapping thing out and working ypur
way up as baby steps .Thank you for posting these videos yall really in
courage me to keep at it : )

  4. I love your videos they are soooo informative!!! Thank you!!! I am a live
    leaner because of you guys!!!

  5. My slow swap was coffee… Subbed it out for diet soda, less caffeine and
calories. Slowly finding myself not going out of the way for either. Thanks
    for the support!

  6. That is exactly what I have done. When I decided to change it was not
immediate for food anyway. I got really focused on workouts right away and
that has not changed in 6 years. But food took longer. I started to eat
better, but not fully committed. It was slow, with small changes all the
time. Eventually a light bulb goes on and you are fully committed. Now I
eat clean and don’t crave the crap anymore. I will indulge here and there,
but it is on my terms, I am in control now. It takes time and patience,
but oh man is it worth it. Thanks for the vid.
