This simple insight came from an epiphany I had a few months ago while walking home against the massive flow of people in the upper east side of New York City. I also notice it on the streets of downtown Toronto as well.
Have you ever noticed the majority of people in cities that don’t typically own cars seem to be leaner and in better shape than the average population?
Now this is just purely an observation, and I don’t have any scientific research to back this up. But it seems to be true. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling you to sell your beautiful 3 bedroom home in the suburbs to move to the city.
The simple key insight here is people that walk more tend to be more lean.
Incredibly insightful I know. But so many people forget about this. They jump in their car to drive 2 minutes up the street rather than walking. Or they take the elevator to the 2nd floor, or they crame into the packed escalator rather than taking the wide open staircase to the left.
So just think about this the next time your buddy Jimmy, who lives 20 houses up the street calls you over to watch the Broncos game.
Don’t jump in your SUV. Walk there.
Or be that “weird” guy who takes the stairs at the shopping mall instead of the escalator.
Living Lean is about making smarter daily lifestyle choices, even when it may seem small or insignificant.
Just like compound interest, these small daily wins, like taking the stairs, compound day by day creating an overall healthier and leaner you.
I know the concept of this video was a pretty obvious. But think about it, are you actually doing it daily?
