On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m sharing my first ever muscle up attempt, as well as my first muscle up reaction after finally completing one.
Regardless of what it is, having a goal requires persistence.
[per·sist·ence]: firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.
You also have to have the determination to fight through the frustration of failure.
[de·ter·mi·na·tion]: firmness of purpose; resoluteness.
Watch how many times I failed during my first day of trying muscle ups.
But when you are determined and persistently taking action towards completing your first muscle up, failure is not an option.
Of course you’ll fail a lot during your muscle up journey, and your hands will be blistered and in pain.
But just when you’re about to give up on getting your first muscle up, you’ll feel a spark of hope.
Then, with a little bit of encouragement, on your 20th or 200th attempt, you’ll complete your first ever muscle up.
Plus, once you get that first muscle up, they just get easier.
The same thing was true for my front lever transformation goal.
Make sure you stay tuned to the very end of the video to not only see my first muscle up reaction, but also to see some craziness on the streets of NYC.
If you’re like me, you’ll then have the confidence to start rocking muscle ups on Park Avenue in New York City, even after a steak dinner 😂.
Just be careful of the taxis driving by!
I hope this inspires you to never give up on your journey to complete your first muscle up, no matter how many times you fail.
Remember, failing just makes success all the more sweet, especially when it comes to muscle ups.

Body position is so important with learning the MU. Leg movement, timing and momentum eventually start to come together and it becomes easy. Alot of people have the strength but not the technique for this exercise.

Never give up. I really need to hear that right now… Not so much when it comes to fitness, but when it comes to other things in my life!
Way to go Brad! I haven’t done one myself, but love that you picked a tough goal and GOT TO IT!
Nice bruh!! My goal is one muscle up as well!! I’m better at the rings but I just can’t get that turn down! I’m 6’2 215. Keep grinding man. I heard clap pull-ups is a great way to build up…but you’re already there. You should do a burn out video…them 2 months later do another one, so we can see your progress
I’m okay knowing I may never do a muscle up – unless there’s ever ‘vertically challenged short persons’ classes near me 😉

Awesome, Brad! Could you do a video showing the technique necessary to do a MUSCLE UP?
I,ve been trying to do one for some time with no sucess 🙁
Yet, great work, as always!
Impressive! And of course it helps having a female watching and cheeting for ya, but still impressive nonetheless.
