The Paleo Diet And The #RunningManChallenge

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, Jessica and I answer a two part question from a viewer who asked, can you gain muscle mass on the Paleo Diet?

The second part of the question asked if we will do the #RunningManChallenge.

@Dex2Real on Snapchat asks: Can you build muscle mass on the Paleo Diet? Will you do the #RunningManChallenge?

This is similar to the question that we answered before about if you can gain muscle mass while doing intermittent fasting.

Does Intermittent Fasting Work For Muscle Building?

The quick answer is yes, you can gain muscle mass on the paleo diet.

2 Main Nutrition Factors To Build Muscle:

  1. Be in a calorie surplus
  2. Eat enough protein

Protein and healthy fat go hand in hand when it comes to the Paleo Diet.

The Paleo Diet

These two macronutrients are important for building muscle for two reasons.

  1. Protein is the building block of muscle.
  2. Healthy fats are a good source of clean calories.

Eating a diet high in healthy fats is a very easy way to add the extra calories required to build muscle.

A lot of people don’t realize that healthy fats are very anabolic since fat contains 9 calories per gram.

When people ask us what they should include in their diet to build muscle, we always tell them to include healthy fat sources such as:

These are all considered paleo friendly foods.

Consuming foods high in healthy fats is the easiest way to get your clean calorie numbers up quickly.

The Paleo Diet is a very good diet for that.

So without a doubt, you can build muscle while following the Paleo Diet.

Are We Hard Core Followers Of The Paleo Diet?

We don’t consider ourselves to be strictly paleo, but we definitely agree with eating the majority of paleo friendly types of foods.

Personally, I just don’t like labeling myself as a person who strictly follows a specific diet.

If I had to choose which of the popular diets, I eat closest too, I would say it is the Paleo Diet.

However I don’t consider myself a paleo crazed person that is boxed into strict dieting rules.

I just don’t role that way.

Bottom Line: Can You Gain Muscle Mass On The Paleo Diet?

Yes, the Paleo Diet is an awesome way of eating for gaining muscle mass.

Will We Do The #RunningManChallenge?

The second part of the question asked if we will do the #RunningManChallenge.

In this vlog, I shared video of me doing the #RunningManChallenge.

We also did a Brad vs. Jess #RunningManChallenge competition on our @LiveLeanTV Facebook page.

Even though Jessica won the vote, it’s clear that she didn’t even do the #RunningManChallenge.

Jessica basically did the funky white girl chicken dance.

Then everybody on Facebook voted for her because they thought, “oh look at the cute pregnant girl”.

Even though I was actually breaking it down, to the actual steps of the #RunningManChallenge, I received no love for it.

Jessica even admitted that I technically did better, but she received the votes and love because of how cute her pregnant belly looked 😂.
