Gluten Free Foods that Pack on the Pounds

On today’s episode I’m going to talk about why gluten free foods can still make you fat.

You’ve heard it. You’ve seen it. You’ve probably tasted it.

If you want to learn more about what gluten is and what it means to be gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive, I cover this in my blog post on 5 Sneaky Sources of Gluten.

But the point of this episode is to bring to light the difference between healthy whole foods that are naturally gluten free, and the packaged products on the grocery store shelves that use gluten free alternative ingredients, in addition to other empty calorie fattening ingredients.

I’ll be up front. Don’t get brainwashed by all the gluten free hype.

Just because a food is gluten free…

IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE IT’S HEALTHY, nor does it mean IT’LL HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT.

There are numerous products with big labels screaming they’re gluten free, however the other ingredients inside the foods will still make you pack on the pounds!

Even though the product is gluten free, they may contain more calories from unhealthy, inflammation causing omega-6 vegetable oils like canola oil, and a higher level of carbohydrates, including sugar, which will crash your blood sugar and spike insulin production.

Eating too many of these gluten free foods can lead to insulin resistance and fat gain.

I highly highly recommend you spend 5-10 seconds to turn around the box and read the ingredients list and the nutrition label, especially when you’re buying these…

Many of these refined pre-packaged foods contain alternative gluten free ingredients like brown rice flour, cornstarch, and potato starch.

Often times these gluten free ingredients can be more calorie dense and higher on the glycemic index than the ingredients they’re replacing.

It’s not just about what the food manufacturers are removing. It’s also as important to pay attention to what they’re adding back into the product.

So here’s your main “Gluten Free” takeaway.

As always, I recommend you take control back of the foods you’re eating by learning how fun and enjoyable it is to bake your own homemade gluten free versions of these foods, using fat burning and natural whole food ingredients.
