What Is The Barbell Burpee Push Up To Clean And Press?

Before trying these insane burpees, I have to point out the obvious.

This exercise combo is an advanced lift and is great for both men and women.

So ladies, if you think you’re off the hook with this one, think again.

Jessica does this exact same movement and kills it.

Even though she makes it look easy, she admits that it is hard.

Barbell Burpee Push Up To Clean And Press Technique Breakdown

When you breakdown the barbell burpee push up to clean and press combo movement, it’s essentially a:

It’s very important to make sure you get the technique down.

To simplify the movement, I like to break down the different portions of the lift, into steps.

Technique Breakdown:

Make Sure You Warm Up First

Before doing an explosive movement like the barbell burpee push up to clean and press, make sure you get in a good warm up to loosen up your body.

After you’re properly warmed up, step up to the barbell and complete a few barbell deadlifts to activate your muscles and get your body moving right.

Once you’re ready to get into, start light and go slow.

How To Do A Barbell Burpee Push Up To Clean And Press

The barbell burpee push up to clean and press is the ultimate total body move that combines a burpee push up with a barbell clean and press. If you don’t have access to an olympic barbell, or it intimidates you, you can start with a smaller fixed straight barbell, and follow the same form and technique.

To Get Started:

  1. Load a barbell with weights on the floor.
  2. Complete a burpee push up by bending down to grip the barbell with your hands, just outside your legs.
  3. Kick both feet back to get into a standard push up position.
  4. Immediately complete a push up by bending your elbows and lowering your chest towards the bar, then press the bar away from you to get back up to the top of the push up. Make sure you keep your abs tight to prevent the barbell from rolling away from you.
  5. While keeping your hands on the bar, kick both feet back to get into a hip width stance, then roll the barbell to touch your shins, and set up to complete a barbell clean and press.
  6. While maintaining a strong back, tight abs, and neutral neck, press your feet through the floor to explosively extend your hips and knees to lift the barbell off the floor.
  7. Shrug your shoulders as the bar rises to your knees, then extend your body to clean the bar up to your shoulders.
  8. Pull your body under the bar as your squat down and catch the bar in the front rack position on your shoulders.
  9. Extend your legs to stand up as you simultaneously press the barbell over your head.
  10. Under control, reverse the movement to lower the barbell back to the floor and repeat.
  11. Focus on your form by keeping your body tight, by firing the appropriate muscles throughout the entire lift.
