Most guys assume that if you look fit, eat clean, and train hard, your testosterone and other health blood markers must be dialed in.
I made that same assumption 15 years ago, and I was completely wrong.
When I was 30 years old, I was 8% body fat.
One of my personal training clients happened to be a doctor.
So I asked him to get my blood work done so I could get a baseline on where I stood.
He went through everything and said, “Brad, all your markers look good… but your testosterone surprised me.”
He said based on my physique, he assumed my T levels would be off the charts.
They weren’t.
At 30 years old, my total testosterone was in the low 300s.
Fast forward 15 years later, and my testosterone has more than doubled at age 45.
If I hadn’t known I was low back then, I never would have made those changes.
On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m vlogging my experience getting my testosterone levels and full men’s health panel tested, and revealing my results so you can see exactly why every man should know his numbers.
To be respectful of your time, I’ve included jump links to each section in the table of contents below.
Here’s why testosterone testing is easier than ever.
Here’s the thing most men don’t realize, testosterone doesn’t just affect your muscle and strength.
It also affects your energy, your focus, your mood, and your sexual drive and performance.
And the only way to know where you actually stand is to test it, so you can make the necessary lifestyle changes to improve it and feel like yourself again.
Fortunately, testing has never been so easy.
I’ve been using today’s video sponsor Labcorp OnDemand for close to 2 years to check my blood markers, multiple times per year.
So I want to show you exactly what the process looks like and what I found out from my recent Men’s Health blood test from Labcorp OnDemand.
This test offers a comprehensive look at your wellness, including:
No doctor’s visit required to purchase it.
No insurance needed.
Go here to find the Men’s Health Test, and purchase it.
The whole thing takes about five minutes.
No waiting for a doctor’s appointment.
Once your purchase is confirmed, find the nearest Labcorp Patient Service Center using the locator on the site, and schedule or simply walk in during their operating hours.
For me, the nearest location was less than 5 minutes away, so I just worked it into my morning before I headed to the gym.
Here’s what the actual visit looked like.
This was super simple, super efficient, super easy.
I walked in, checked in at the mobile kiosk, and within three minutes I did a urine test, then met with the nurse who took my blood.
The whole thing took less than 10 minutes.
Now I’ll go home, and within probably 24 hours I’ll get a notification that my blood test results are ready to view inside the MyLabcorp app.
This is so easy compared to 15 years ago when I was first getting into health and fitness.
Back then, when I wanted to know my blood markers, I had to go through my primary care physician, which could take several weeks or more to get an appointment.
Now I can go straight to the source by using Labcorp OnDemand.
Amazing.
I highly recommend it.
Alright, it’s time for me to share my testosterone results as a 45 year old.
And I’m going to be fully transparent with you here because that’s the whole point.
My testosterone came back at 681 ng/dL.
The reference range on the report is 264 to 916.
So I’m well within the healthy range.
But what’s interesting is that this reference range is based on healthy, non-obese men between 19 and 39 years old.
I’m 45.
So at 45, sitting at 681?
I’ll take that.
Remember, in my early 30s I was in the low 300s.
At that time I was over-training, stressed out, going through a divorce, not eating enough fat.
All of those things crushed my testosterone.
Over the years I changed my approach.
Higher fat intake, optimized sleep, reduced unnecessary stress, smarter training and my numbers basically doubled.
This is exactly why knowing your baseline matters.
Without that baseline, I never would have known what to fix
Now, this is the result I wasn’t expecting.
Now here’s the blood test result that actually caught my attention, and it wasn’t the testosterone.
It was my HbA1c.
My result came back at 5.8.
The reference range on this test shows that anything between 5.7 and 6.4 is considered the prediabetes range.
And I’m at 5.8.
I did not expect that.
I eat clean.
I train consistently.
I’m not overweight.
And yet my HbA1c is sitting in the early prediabetes zone.
Now, I’m not panicking.
One result isn’t a diagnosis.
But this is the exact reason you test.
Because if I hadn’t done this, I would have had no idea.
The Men’s Health Test from Labcorp OnDemand isn’t just for testosterone.
It’s a comprehensive snapshot:
This single test gave me data I needed to look deeper into this.
And now I can actually do something about it.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the other blood markers I got back, because the Men’s Health Test covers a lot more than just testosterone:
My lipid panel came back clean, total cholesterol at 153, LDL at 84, and my HDL was 63, which is in the protective range.
Triglycerides came in at 42, which is extremely low, which reflects the lower-carb, higher-fat approach I’ve been following for years.
Fasting glucose was 95, just inside the normal range, even though my HbA1c result was just outside the normal range.
This is something I’m going to explore further.
Kidney and liver markers all came back normal.
Blood count was solid.
The point is I got a full picture of my health in one test, without needing a doctor’s appointment.
That’s the value here.
Here’s why you need to know your numbers today.
Look, most men are walking around not knowing their testosterone levels, not knowing their blood sugar, not knowing their cholesterol, just assuming everything’s fine because they feel okay.
That’s exactly how I was in my early 30s.
And I was low.
The only way to know is to test.
The Men’s Health Test from Labcorp OnDemand makes it easy.
You purchase online, walk into a Labcorp near you to get your sample collected, and your results come back fast.
