How To Do A Standing Dumbbell Shrug Correctly

The standing dumbbell shrug is an exercise that targets the muscles in the trapezius, a.k.a. the traps.

To get started:

  1. Hold a pair of dumbbells with a palms in, neutral grip at your sides.
  2. Ensure you keep your shoulders back with your chest up.
  3. Elevate your shoulders as high as you can while keeping your arms extended at your sides.
  4. Pause to feel the contraction at the top, and ensure your elbows do not bend as you elevate your shoulders.
  5. The movement is only from the shoulders.
  6. Repeat for reps.
