Speediance Gym Monster 2 Review: Still Worth It After a Year?

I’ve been training at home since 2020 using whatever I had on hand.

But for the last year, one piece of equipment has become my most-used by a mile, the Speediance Gym Monster 2.

My husband did a full review of it a year ago (worth a watch if you haven’t seen it).

But plenty can change once the honeymoon phase wears off, so this is the honest one-year follow-up from me, the person who actually uses it every single day.

Here’s everything I love, everything that’s not perfect, and whether I’d buy it again.

What Is the Speediance Gym Monster 2?

Speediance Gym Monster 2 Review | Best Smart Home Gym of 2025?

If you haven’t seen it before, the Gym Monster 2 is an all-in-one home training machine.

It delivers up to 220 lbs of digital resistance and folds up to be tucked away when you’re done.

In one footprint, it replaces a cable machine, squat rack, barbell, and bench, and it gives you guided workouts right on the built-in screen.

Instead of cramming your garage full of separate machines, this is a single solution that does the job of all of them.

How the Resistance Actually Feels

The biggest win for me is how the resistance feels.

It’s incredibly smooth.

There’s a standard mode that’s excellent on its own, but then there’s chain mode and eccentric mode that make the same weight feel even heavier, all with the touch of a button, no adjusting anything else.

Honestly, with eccentric mode engaged, it feels way heavier than 220 lbs.

I’ve never come close to outgrowing it.

If anything, it gets heavier than I can manage, so there’s serious room to progress.

20-Second Setup, Premium Build

Folding it out and turning it on takes about 20 seconds and then I’m ready to train.

No wasted time swapping plates or digging out dumbbells, everything’s right there.

The build quality feels genuinely premium.

It’s stable and solid, not wiggly, and I’ve never worried about it tipping.

The touchscreen works great, and the built-in speakers are surprisingly good.

I’ll turn the machine on just to use it as a speaker even when I’m doing bodyweight or free-weight work.

The Features That Surprised Me Most

A few things I didn’t expect to love as much as I do:

  • The Bluetooth ring: I wear it on my finger and adjust the weight, or turn resistance on and off, without moving anything else. It’s perfect for mid-set when you need a quick break but can’t get out of position.
  • Automatic tracking: It logs which muscle groups you worked, your reps, sets, and weight. No notebook, no trying to remember.
  • Constant software updates: It’s not a stagnant machine, it keeps evolving. A recent update tracks my sets on-screen and times my rest periods in big, easy-to-read numbers, which keeps me on task when I get distracted.
  • Wellness+ AI nutrition. If you want nutrition help, you can snap a photo of your meal and the AI estimates calories and macros automatically. It takes the guesswork out of the process.

Why It’s Perfect for Busy Parents

As a mom, this is honestly where the Gym Monster 2 shines most.

It’s quiet, it’s right here at home, and there’s no free weights that could fall on my kids, so I feel completely safe training with them in the room.

I don’t have to drive to the gym or arrange child care.

My whole workout takes about 30 minutes, roughly the time it takes them to finish a snack.

And they love joining in; sometimes I teach them exercises on it, and I trust it’s safe for them to use.

The Honest Cons

No review is complete without the downsides, so here’s where I’ll be straight with you:

  • It’s heavy to move: Relocating it to another room takes a second set of hands. I can’t move it solo, though I love that it can be moved at all, since a lot of digital home gyms have to be bolted to the wall. This one doesn’t, which is a big pro.
  • You have to be gentle with it: You can’t just drop the weight like you can with dumbbells. You need to lower things slowly and treat the cables with a little care. I’ve seen people in the Facebook group report broken cables, and I suspect it’s usually from being too rough. With free weights you can act like an animal; with this, you have to be a touch more civilized. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
  • The minimum weight is 8 lbs: It doesn’t go lighter than that. For me that’s never been an issue. The 8-to-220 lb range has been perfect, but it’s worth knowing if you want very light loads.
  • No home for the Bluetooth ring: There’s no designated dock for it, so I stuck a magnet on the side as a makeshift hook. My one product-improvement wish would be built-in hooks to store the ring and accessories.

Who the Gym Monster 2 Is Perfect For

Based on a full year with it, I think this machine is ideal for:

  • Stay-at-home moms and dads
  • The elderly population
  • Anyone nervous about dropping free weights on themselves
  • Anyone who’d rather not deal with a commercial gym for any reason

It’s an incredible way to stay strong and healthy from the comfort of home.

Would I Buy It?

After using it consistently for a year, 100%, yes.

It completed my home setup in the best way.

I always wanted a cable machine, and this is exactly the one I wanted: smooth cables, high and low adjustable attachments, sleek design, and far more versatility than I expected.

With this in my space, there’s no reason for me to hit the commercial gym.

I skip the germs, save the commute, avoid the child-care scramble, and actually look forward to my workouts.

It’s been a genuinely awesome addition.
