Top 5 Fitness Excuses and How to Overcome

Ditch the excuses, in exchange for the results

I hear these 5 excuses pretty much on a daily from my clients and followers all over the world. Are you making any of these common excuses? If so they are likely holding you back from your true potential and stopping you from achieving your ideal body.

If it’s important, you’ll find a way, If it’s not important you’ll find an excuse.

I used to be full of excuses. I wanted to be fit, but I’d skip workouts or eat unhealthy foods because I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted so I didn’t think there was any point in disciplining myself to do better. It wasn’t until 2008 when I reached a point with my fitness goals that I decided it was time to crack down and really push myself to finally achieve the type of body I admired. So I ditched my excuses, and traded them in for PLANS.

Here’s how I did it. I sat down with a Nutritionist and went over my numbers. How much Proteins, Carbs, Fats & Calories would I need daily to reach my goals? How much exercise will it take? What should my schedule and meal timing look like, etc.. these were the kind of questions that got answers that day, and don’t worry, when you first do this it may not be perfect but it doesn’t have to be, it just simply needs to be a plan.

My next step was to decide a time frame and assign a deadline. For me this was 6 months and my deadline was a fitness/bikini competition. Then I drew a Calendar where I could mark down with pencil each workout I did and how many rest days I had, it really helped keep me accountable because I hung it right on my bedroom wall where I would be forced to look at it every morning and every night.

There are some great strategies you can use to overcome excuses.

Use sticky notes to write down your favorite quotes or positive statements.. Some of the ones I like and have used myself are “I can” “I will” “Everyday I’m Getting Better” “Failure is only the opportunity to more intelligently begin again” “I want to Change”. You can be creative and come up with your own, or you can just use the ones I’ve listed here. Having these positive reminders posted in your house in a place where you can see them everyday will help you stay focused and on track to success.
