Bread, insulin, pre and post workout foods, and soybean oil

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m answering 5 of your questions, including are lean cuisines good for weight loss?

In addition to this, I’ll also be answering questions about different types of bread, how to minimize insulin spikes, good pre and post workout foods, and soybean oil.

This is another edition of my #LLTV Q&A series where I answer 5 of your questions, in 5 minutes.

Here are today’s 5 viewer questions:

Question #1:

dillba5 on YouTube says: great work on these Q&A videos. I always wondered what’s the difference between whole grain vs multigrain vs whole wheat vs wholemeal? What is the best option health-wise when it comes to buying bread, pasta, etc.? Thanks Brad.

Check out the full post on what is the difference between whole grain vs multigrain vs whole wheat vs wholemeal bread and pasta, here.

Let’s move on to the next question.

Question #2:

Viewer question: I’ve been reading about insulin spikes and ways to slow and prevent them. I’m looking for tips on how to prevent blood sugar spikes and slow the release of insulin. Should you drink apple cider vinegar with water before meals, especially if it’s a cheat meal? How do you reduce significant spikes in insulin? What tactics do you use?

Question #3:

Yuki1805 asks: Lean Cuisine meals, what’s your take 😊? Are Lean Cuisines good for weight loss? Are Lean Cuisine meals healthy?

I’m not sure if Lean Cuisine meals are available all over the world.

So if you don’t know what lean cuisine meal are, they’re basically one of those microwavable dinners that you heat in the microwave, and then it’s ready for you.

Are Lean Cuisines Good For Weight Loss?

Based on that, I think you probably know what my answer is.

Don’t eat them.

I mean, take the extra 10 minutes and cook your chicken breast from home, and add some broccoli to it.

Just look at all the ingredients in a Lean Cuisine meal.

Typically, when a processed meal has a lot of ingredients, and you can only pronounce 50% of them, it’s a dead giveaway that it’s not the healthiest option.

Sure it may say it’s “low fat” and only 170 calories.

But that’s just food marketing BS

However, overall, Lean Cuisines are not the worst thing you can eat, especially if the alternative is greasy fast food hamburger and french fries.

Sure fast food would be worse for you, but I recommend you take the extra 10 minutes and prepare your home cooked meals in advance.

Take some time on the weekends to meal prep, then add it to some glass containers and store it in the fridge.

Then when you go to work, or come home after a long day of work, the healthy food is ready for you.

Most low calorie microwavable meals are junk.

If you want to lose weight and be healthy, get them out of your diet.

Question #4:

FreeVidsJustSub on YouTube asks: what should you eat before and after a workout?

Here are video posts I did on the best pre-workout meal and post-workout meal.

Best Pre Workout Meal In The Morning

When it comes to pre-workout meals, I find I workout best when my stomach is almost empty.

So 3 hours before my workout is when I focus on eating a good source of protein.

However, I actually find I train better when I’m fasted.

So I may have a pre workout protein shake, but nothing too heavy.

Then after my workout, I always have fast-acting protein, such as egg white protein powder or whey protein isolate.

I then pair that with a fast-acting carbohydrate source.

After your workout is when most people (unless you are obese) need sugar to repair and replenish your body.

Why Carbs Are Required Post Workout...Or Are They?

To get fast acting sugar in my body, I’ll add maple syrup to a blender with my post workout protein shake.

It’s absolutely delicious.

Again, if you’re building muscle, after your workout is when you can have something sugary.

This sugar helps shuttle the amino acids from the protein into your muscles.

It also helps take your body from a muscle breakdown, catabolic state, into a muscle building, anabolic state.

This helps rebuild and repair your muscles.

One more question.

Question #5:

Viewer question: is soybean oil good or bad for you? Do you think soybean oil will trigger arthritis?
