Protein, fish oil, varicose veins, pasta, and barefoot training

On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m answering a question from a viewer who asked, does working out reduce varicose veins in legs?

Welcome to another #LLTV Q&A session, where I answer 5 of your questions on video, in 5 minutes.

Are you ready?

I’ll take that silence as a yes.

Lets do this.

Does Working Out Reduce Varicose Veins In Legs? #LLTV Q&A Ep. 10

Here are today’s questions:

  1. How much protein should you take a day?
  2. How much fish oil should you take a day?
  3. Do HIIT workouts like Insanity cause varicose veins?
  4. Is pasta bad for you?
  5. Is barefoot training good for you? What are the benefits?

Keep reading to find out my answers to all of these questions.

Question #1:

How many grams of protein should you consume?

It really depends on many factors, including your fitness and activity level, your goals, and your body type.

What’s My Body Type?

If you’re working out at the gym or at home, I’d simply recommend you aim to consume at least one gram of protein per pound of body weight.

For example, if you weigh 175 pounds, aim to consume at least 175 grams of protein.

Remember, this is just a general recommendation.

You can find a more detailed calculation of how much protein to consume, here.

Lets move on to the next question.

Question #2:

I was wondering, how much fish oil should I take in a day? My bottle says to take one capsule per meal.

If you haven’t seen my post on the two best supplements to get lean and healthy, I shared that fish oil is one of my top two supplements that I take all year round.

2 Best Supplements To Get Lean And Healthy

I typically take 1-2 teaspoons a fish oil per day.

Supplementing with fish oil has done wonders for my joints.

Since I go to gym and work out hard, it puts a lot of stress on my joints.

Fish oil can help reduce inflammation, and helps with faster muscle recovery, so I can properly recover before my next workout in the gym.

If you’re new to fish oil, I recommend you follow the package directions.

However, if you find you’re not feeling any difference, and you’re still feeling sore with achy joints, try to gradually increase the dosage a little bit.

I covered more information on how much fish oil to take, here.

Question #3:

Do you know if high intensity interval training cardio styles, and high impact workouts, create varicose veins in legs? Or does working out reduce varicose veins in legs?

I’ve never heard that any type of workouts cause varicose veins in legs.

So what you heard is probably just a myth.

You also asked, does working out reduce varicose veins in legs, and if so,  what are the best exercises and workout styles.

Does Working Out Reduce Varicose Veins In Legs? #LLTV Q&A Ep. 10

I know headstands and handstands are a great exercise to reduce varicose veins because your legs are elevated, thus helping increase blood circulation.

However, any type of workouts that get your body moving, will help reduce varicose veins in legs.

It’s all about increasing circulation throughout your body, therefore workouts really help with that.

Pros And Cons Of HIIT Cardio

Bottom line is high intensity interval training workouts, or any other style of workouts, are not the primary cause of varicose veins in legs.

So don’t worry that.

Keep working out.

Question #4:

Next question from Melanie on Facebook: what are your thoughts about pasta? I tend to eat spaghetti and macaroni once a week with minced vegetables?

Question #5:

I have seen guys lifting barefoot or with Vibrams, Are there any physical benefits to wearing them, or is it personal preference?
