Barbell Sumo Deadlift

How To Do A Barbell Sumo Deadlift Exercise Video Demonstration and Guide

The Barbell Sumo Deadlift is another variation of the traditional deadlift that uses a wider stance, thus the bar and weight does not need to travel as far.

You’ll see this variation used in many powerlifting circles.

To get started:

  1. With a very wide stance, keeping your chest up, push your hips back, bend your knees, and lower your body to grab the barbell with a grip inside the legs.
  2. While maintaining a flat back, drive your feet through the floor and lift the bar by extending your hips and knees.
  3. Reverse the movement to lower the bar back to the floor and repeat.
